For Cup 15 I used a variegated thread with orange, brown and blue in place of the orange decorations.  It gave it a Spanish look.

For Cup 17 I used a variegated thread with three colors of blue for the bottom of the cup.  It looked like vertical stripes.

Cup 5 and 6

Cup 5 uses the wave attribute. This really tends to pull on the top sides of the design. You can see the center of the cup waves down.  I could not add more pull comp because the outline fit most of the rest of the design.  I just moved the outline more inside in places.   Also had to fix the red lines to match up with the edge of the cup. The picture on the right is the actual sew out before I fixed it.  I could add more density to the coffee, but I want it to lay flat.  I will just fix it with a brown fabric pen.....(which every embroiderer should own)

Cup 6 uses several techniques.  The steam uses Blend to mix two colors. I like the look of this, it changes colors along the steam.  The coffee has a ripple fill over a plain fill. The body has three stitch angle changes and the center body has a longer stitch. I am not crazy about the green on the handle and lip, but it seemed to match the picture I copied. The right picture is the stitch out before changes.  I had to tweak the outline a bit to take out some gap.  I was cleaning my iron and did not add the magic sizing, so I ended up with some puckers....should starch out tho.

Cup2 Design

Okay here is the first design.  I am trying to make use of all the options in Bernina Software for fills and fancy fills.  Because the designs are going on a quilt, I tried to limit the thickness of the fill and most designs will have little or no underlay.  It is my hope that this reduces the pull compensation and will help the designs lay flat in the quilt.

I am embroidering the designs on good quality off white KONA cotton that has several layers of Magic Sizing sprayed and ironed on.  Remember my lesson.....the stiffer the fabric- the better the design?  I sprayed a cut-away stabilizer with KK2000 and smoothed down the fabric onto the stabilizer.

The colors in the designs are the actual ones I used.  The picture above is not the sewn out design just a graphic from the software.  I will dig out my camera and get pictures in the next couple of posts.

Now for the links to the designs:

New Project Beginning

I have a good friend that is making a quilt with 50 coffee cups on it for someone's Birthday.  She asked me if I could do the coffee cups in machine embroidery. That would be easy I thought since I have many designs already digitized by others.  The only problem with that was... there were stipulations to the types of coffee cups she wanted...

As of this post...they could only be coffee cups with no saucers and only modern designs...
....Since I had very few canned designs exactly like this, I decided to just digitize new ones.

I figured some of my other machine embroidery friends might like to travel down this road with me, so I am going to try and figure a way to make the designs available to you guys.

Most of you have Brother machines, so I will upload them in .pes.  For the Bernina machine owners the  .art60  format will also be uploaded.

As I create them, I will try and mention it on my facebook.

I have a year to do the designs, but will probably try and do several a week...depending on how often we need to deliver and teach PR1000s.

Feel free to email me if you have any suggestions for designs or questions.
